Builder cheats landowner, case with EOW

Nashik: The economic offences wing of the city police has taken over a probe from the Mumbai Naka police over a city builder allegedly conning a landowner.The builder was arrested on October 30 and remanded to four days of custody.The landowner registered a complaint at the Mumbai Naka police station. He said he had given land for development and also paid Rs1.2 crore to the builder in December 2019.However, the builder did not do the work and never returned the money.The police registered an FIR against the builder under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will) and 468 (forgery for cheating) among other sections of the IPC.The case was transferred to EOW. PI Bhagirath Deshmukh said that as people came to know about the arrest, close to 20 came ahead with similar problems. In the case of old buildings, he claimed to help buyers get flats at cheaper rates and collected money from victims. Dube and his accomplice have over nine cases of cheating registered against them.Mumbai Air Pollution: BMC asks some builders to stop work over foul airThe Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started issuing stop-work notices to builders who are not following anti-air pollution guidelines. Several construction sites, including ones in Mulund and Santacruz, have been issued these notices. The guidelines violated include the lack of 25ft high metal sheets around the construction site, failure to enclose the site in wet cloth/jute/tarpaulin cover, and not using sensor-based air pollution monitors. The BMC has given builders 15-30 days to comply with the guidelines or face work stoppage.Mumbai air pollution: Wards send squads to issue checklists, notices to buildersSquads have been formed in the 24 municipal wards of Mumbai to monitor air pollution. Some wards are issuing checklists to construction sites with deadlines, and strict action is being taken against those that fail to comply. The BMC has issued stop-work notices to construction companies for violating pollution guidelines. The wards are also developing an MIS system to track information on construction sites and parameters examined. Multiple squads have been formed in different wards to monitor pollution levels and enforce compliance with guidelines.
