27k property tax defaulters in Nashik city pay ₹16 crore

Nashik: After the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) served notices to the property tax defaulters, over 27,000 people have paid property tax dues amounting to Rs 16 crore in the past week.The civic body officials said they are expecting the defaulters to clear at least Rs 50 to Rs 75 crore dues by the end of November. Last week, the NMC served notices to 2.37 lakh people for defaulting property tax worth Rs 470 crore, giving them an ultimatum of 15 days to pay dues, failing which the civic body will start the process of issuing warrants.The tax dues are pending with them for four to nine years.The civic body has set a property tax collection target of Rs 210 crore for the current financial year (2023-24) and municipal commissioner Ashok Karanjkar has given the December 31 deadline to the property tax department for meeting the target.NMC officials said they want to meet the property tax collection target set for the current financial year by the end of the current calendar year. Apart from this, we are also focusing on collecting property tax dues from various state and central government offices. Over Rs 20 crore dues are pending with these 20-25 government offices, said NMC officials.We have already received property tax dues amounting to Rs 4 crore from two government offices. We are also assessing the properties of the central government departments so that service tax can be fixed. We are expecting at least Rs 10-12 crores from these government offices, said the officials.Meanwhile, the civic body has collected property tax amounting to Rs 135 crore so far, in the current financial year, against property tax collection of Rs 106 crore during the same period last financial year.We also published the following articles recentlyThane: Palava township residents to get 66% property tax rebateThe residents of Palava township in Dombivli, Maharashtra, have been granted a 66% property tax rebate by the state government. MNS MLA Pramod (Raju) Patil has also demanded that the KDMC adjust the extra money paid by Palava residents in future bills.Gunshots target Curtorim house in property disputeA house in Curtorim, Goa was targeted by gunshots in a dispute over a plot of land. The owner of a security agency has been arrested, while two others remain at large. The dispute has been pending in court. Three individuals fired shots at the house, but no one was injured. Two bullets were recovered at the scene. The accused have been charged under the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.Income Tax department conducts raids at Rajasthan ministers officeThe Income Tax Department conducted raids at the office of Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Udai Lal Anjana in Udaipur. Anjana, who is the Congress nominee from Nimbahera constituency, was not present during the raid. The I-T department team examined documents and questioned Anjanas office staff. The police accompanied the I-T team. Media personnel were denied access to the office as the lights were switched off and the gate was locked. Three out of the six I-T teams left in the evening.
