Co-accused in con case, builder dies by suicide

Nashik: One of the four builders accused of conning landowners and cheating investors allegedly died by suicide after jumping before a moving train around 1.45pm on Thursday, senior officials from the government railway police said.Manohar Karda, the elder brother of Naresh Karda — who is in custody of the Mumbai Naka police in the same case, allegedly died by suicide near Sansari village between Nashik Road and Deolali railway stations.The incident came in the wake of four builders being accused in acon case.GRP officials said the loco pilot of a goods train heading towards Mumbai alerted railway officials about the incident. The body was taken to the Civil Hospital for postmortem and was identified by relatives of the deceased.Economic Offences Wing (EOW) police inspector Bhagirath Deshmukh, who is investigating the case, said, Manohar was Nareshs elder brother. He was also booked in the offence along with yet another brother and one of their friends.The police said the number of complaints against the accused was increasing. The four allegedly took money from many people to develop land, but never delivered. The value of the money conned has touched Rs50 crore.The number of complaints is rising. We received more than five complaints on Thursday, in addition to those already filed. In Mohan Garden, a 38-year-old man was stabbed to death by two juveniles. The police apprehended the suspects and found stabbing marks on the victims neck and back. In Mahendra Park, a retailer was stabbed to death during a quarrel with some people. The police are investigating both cases and have registered murder cases.Officials must act on consumer complaintsThe Goa Consumer Action Network (Goacan) held a vigilance awareness program to highlight consumer complaints, including issues with unregistered travel agencies and businesses operating without licenses. Goacan urged consumers to send postcards detailing their grievances and file complaints with the appropriate supervisors. The organization emphasized the need for proactive action and solutions from the supervisory bodies in each department. It also called for awareness programs to educate citizens about these issues.
