Nashik rural police start road safety campaign

Nashik: The Nashik rural police have started a special drive against erring motorists in the rural areas of the district from Monday in a bid to bring down road accidents and fatalities.As part of the drive, the police would be taking action against over-speeding motorists, driving vehicles without a helmet and seatbelt, wrong-side driving, and those driving vehicles without carrying a driving license and other essential documents for vehicles.API Pravin Patil of the traffic branch of the rural police said, Motorists should drive their vehicles within the speed limit as the fine for over-speeding is Rs 2,000. The traffic police would be taking action against motorists indulging in overspeeding in different parts of the rural district on a regular basis.Last year, there were a total of 835 fatal accidents in which 912 people lost their lives on the rural roads of the district.Out of the 912 deaths in road accidents, 388 were two- and three-wheeler occupants, followed by 105 pedestrians and 356 four-wheeler occupants.The traffic drive is being undertaken as per the guidance of SP Shahaji Umap, said senior police officials.We also published the following articles recentlySix killed in road accident in Punjabs Sangrur districtA collision between a car and a truck in Punjabs Sangrur district resulted in the death of six individuals, including a four-year-old child. Suggestions to resolve the problem include setting up a MLCP, implementing one-way stretches and parking zones, and increasing pay parking areas.
