Nashik FDA cracks down on adulterated food items, oil

Nashik: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the Nashik division has seized adulterated food items and spurious cooking oil from different parts of the district over the last 15-20 days.The total amount of seized items is worth over Rs 20 lakh. FDA officials said that teams were formed to conduct raids in various outlets to prevent the sale of adulterated food items during Diwali.On Tuesday, shrikhand and loose oil, worth over Rs two lakh, were confiscated by the Nashik Food and Drug Administration (FDA).FDA officials said on Monday that they raided a food shop in the city and found boxes of shrikhand with no manufacturing or expiry date. Taking serious note of the same, the FDA officials seized shrikhand boxes weighing over 61 kg and worth over Rs 18,000. FDA food inspectors also raided an oil stockiest in Sinnar and seized 53 cans of loose soyabean oil, another 41 boxes of re-used refined soyabean oil and 28 boxes of re-used palmolein oil, collectively worth Rs1.93 lakh.On November 1, the FDA officials raided a cold storage in Satpur and found over 10,000 kg of chilli powder worth over Rs 16 lakh and another 4,200 kg of coriander powder worth Rs 2.35 lakh, which was stored since March 2023 without any lable on packets. Suspecting that they could be stored for adulteration, the police seized the articles and sent the samples for further investigation to check whether they are adulterated.On October 10, the FDA raided a house in Sinnar and found a man adulterating milk with the help of milk powder and colourless liquid. The FDA found 18 kg of dairy milk powder, 34 kg of milk powder and 170 litres of colourless liquid. With the help of these substances, the man had prepared 420 litres of cow milk, which he sold in markets.
