Cops seize gutka worth over 20 lakh

Nashik: The rural police have seized gutka worth over Rs20 lakh after raiding over 200 shops and pan stalls falling under eight police stations on Monday.On the first day of the drive, they checked pan stalls and shops in various parts of the district and found the sale of banned gutka in three of them. The owners were booked under Section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) of the IPC.In the Malegaon taluka area, the police found gutka worth Rs1.30 lakh kept in a shed. They arrested one person in this case. During his custodial interrogation, he told the police that he had bought gutka from a village in Dhule district. The packages were found to have non-standard sizes, which violates the Legal Metrology Act. Consumers are advised to check the declaration on packaged commodities, including the manufacturers details, country of origin for imported products, and net quantity.Andhra Pradesh: Police arrest five thieves, recover booty worth Rs.40 lakhFive notorious thieves involved in multiple theft cases were arrested by the Tirupati district police. The accused were identified as Kachileti Venkatesh, M Manikantan, P Gemini, R Lokesh, and Shaik Masthan. They were seasoned offenders with 28 theft cases registered across the Tirupati district and a few cases in Karnataka. The police recovered stolen property including motorbikes, gold and silver ornaments, and cash. The crime department additional SP Vimala Kumari and her team were appreciated for their efforts in apprehending the accused and recovering the stolen items.
