Man booked for stealing ₹7.5 lakh from scooter’s storage box in Nashik Road

Nashik: The Nashik Road police are on the lookout for an unidentified suspect who stole Rs 7.5 lakh from the storage compartment of a scooter belonging to a contractor on Friday.The complainant, 41 year-old Bhagat Premji, had withdrawn the money from a bank for making payments to his workers. After withdrawing the money from the bank, Premji had put it in a bag and kept it inside the compartment of his scooter.He then left for a construction site at Saubhagya Nagar along Lam Road, a police officer said.He reached the site at 4.30 pm and parked his two-wheeler in the parking area before going to the third floor to inspect the work being done by his staff, the officer added.Around 30 minutes later, the contractor came to his scooter and opened the compartment to fetch his water bottle when he noticed the bag containing the money was missing. Premji then registered a complaint with the Nashik Road police. The police have frozen 26 accounts as part of their investigation and are taking steps to recover the money. Two individuals from Varkala and Malappuram received money from the accounts where the stolen money was transferred, claiming that they sold bitcoins. However, the police have summoned them for further questioning. The fraud involved the swindlers tricking a 72-year-old person into believing he was involved in a drug case and transferring money from his account to various fake accounts.
