17 fire tenders take 10 hours to douse blaze in garment shop

Nashik: A huge fire broke out at a garment store in the Main Road area close to the Red Cross Signal around 11.30pm on Sunday, causing damage to goods worth lakhs of rupees. No loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. It took the fire department over 10 hours and 17 fire tenders to douse the blaze.More than 60 personnel of the fire department were involved in the operation.The blaze was doused at 8am on Monday, however, as smoke continued to emanate from the upper floor, three fire tenders were stationed at the spot till 4 pm.Officials of the fire brigade department said they received a call around 11.30pm on Sunday when people were bursting firecrackers in the old city area.As per fire officials, the top floor of the two-storey shop caught fire.Chief fire officer Sanjay Bairagi said, Our fire tenders reached the incident spot immediately and started dousing the blaze.A fireman at the Shingada Talav Fire Brigade Centre said the Main Road is narrow, and only one fire tender with a ladder was taken close to the incident spot.The fire tender drew water from other fire tenders halted at a distance of about 40metres with the help of a hose, he said. He said the operation took long because of the narrow approach road. We wouldve sprayed water from all sides and doused the fire in three to four hours, he added. As per reports, all the garments on the second floor of the shop were completely damaged. After Laxmi Puja on Sunday, several residents were bursting firecrackers.Two more incidents of fire were reported in the city.
