The story follows the search for identity of a child whose parentage is unknown, and the subsequent generations who continue the search. Set in the village of Hazratkandi, which moves from India to East Pakistan and then to Bangladesh, the novel beautifully depicts the landscapes, relationships, and the impact of political change. Overall, it is a touching and captivating saga.
