Dengue cases continue to rise in Nashik, 33 patients test positive

Nashik: The city has reported 33 fresh Dengue-positive cases in the past week.In November alone, the city has reported 122 dengue cases so far, taking the tally since January 1 this year to 837. The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) health officials said there are mosquito breeding spots in the city, owing to which dengue cases are increasing. Our health teams are continuously conducting surveys of mosquito breeding spots and destroying them.During the survey, we found that some erring people are keeping the garbage and plastic waste on the open and in open drainage lines in some parts of the city where we found the mosquito breeding spots, said NMC officials.Moreover, mosquito breeding spots are seen at the construction sites also, added NMC officials.NMC health department is taking all the measures to curb dengue cases. But at the same time, it is also the responsibility of the city residents to ensure that mosquito breeding spots are not created at the premises of their residences or commercial establishments, said NMC officials. The highest number of patients are admitted at Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital. The number of cases reported daily has slightly decreased due to the Diwali festival. October had the highest number of cases, followed by September.Fog gives teeth to citys killer spotsA pile-up of 22 vehicles occurred on the Ludhiana-Delhi National Highway in Khanna due to low visibility caused by fog. One person died and 16 were injured in the accident. Poorly-placed boulders and concrete blocks on the roads, as well as a lack of reflecting tapes, have been identified as potential dangers. A resident named Davinder Nagi has taken it upon himself to mark these hazardous spots with reflective tape to make them visible to commuters. The administration has been criticized for not addressing these issues and providing solutions.State to audit17 suspected dengue deathsThe death of a six-year-old girl from suspected dengue at the Goa Medical College (GMC) will be audited along with 16 other suspected dengue deaths recorded this year. A committee of doctors will conduct the audits, which are expected to be completed by the end of the month. The health officer in charge of vector-borne disease control will visit the sub-district hospital where the girl was admitted and inspect the protocols for admission and referral for dengue cases. Additionally, a team will visit the areas where the girl lived to determine if there are mosquito breeding sites.
