NMC needs more time to take a call on traffic warden proposal

Nashik: The civic body is expected to take more time to take a decision on whether to accept or reject the city polices proposal of appointing 60 traffic wardens.Officials of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) said the proposal must be examined in detail since it has financial implications. The NMC will have to pay salaries to these wardens.The top brass of the civic body will deliberate on the matter before taking a final decision, said a senior official.Another officer added: The proposal is yet to come up for discussion with the NMC commissioner. Senior officers will have to consider the financial implications before approving the proposal.The city police is keen on deploying traffic wardens since the traffic police cell is struggling due to manpower shortage.DCP (HQ and traffic) Chandrakant Khandvi said: We are awaiting a response from the NMC. The sooner the proposal is accepted, the better it would be for us. It would become easier to manage vehicular traffic in the city then.The Nashik city police wants to deploy 60 traffic wardens who will assist the traffic police personnel in handling the flow of vehicles in the city. Traffic police officials said it would be after 15 years that traffic wardens would be roped in by the police.The Nashik city police had sought applications from people willing to work as traffic wardens. The applications were scrutinized and the interested candidates were called for interviews. A list of 60 candidates was sent to the NMC. The traffic police had written to NMC about the deployment of these wardens, requesting the civic body to pay the honorarium.
