NMC to outsource upkeep of gardens

Nashik: The civic body has decided to deploy private agencies to maintain over 200 gardens under its control across six divisions. The garden department has submitted a proposal to the general body of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) for its approval. The decision is to be taken during the next meeting of the NMCs general body to be held on Friday. The maintenance of the 200 gardens are estimated at around Rs 2.5 crore for a period of three years. The NMC administration decided to maintain over 450 of its 535 gardens in the city through private agencies for proper maintenance. Out of these, it has already carried out a tender process for 250 gardens. Now, it has decided to start the process for the maintenance of the remaining 200 gardens. However, the NMCs proposal to limit colleges to one per district with a population of 10 lakh caused concern. In response to objections from several states, including Andhra Pradesh, the NMC has delayed the implementation of the new guidelines until 2025-26. The state government is now working to secure permissions for all the colleges before the new guidelines take effect.
