Police arrest burglar, recover cellphone & gold jewellery worth over ₹8.6 lakh

Nashik: The Nashik city police arrested a burglar and recovered gold jewellery and other valuable items worth over Rs8.6 lakh from him.Senior officials of crime branch unit 1 said on Sunday that they received the information about Mary Alva, a Mumbai resident, who boarded a train for Mumbai from Bhopal. She filed a complaint that around 4.25am on Saturday, some unidentified people stole 140 gm of gold jewellery and a cellphone, collectively worth Rs8.6 lakh, from her shoulder purse.She registered a complaint with the Nashik Road Railway police station. Inspector Mahesh Kulkarni of the Nashik Road Railway police station received the CCTV footage of the theft and circulated the same on the WhatsApp group of police personnel.Vishal Kathe of crime branch unit 1 saw the footage and identified the burglar. He got a tip-off that the burglar was reaching the Bharat Nagar area of the city. He immediately reported the same to senior inspector Vijay Dhamal. On the guidance of Dhamal, the police laid a trap in the Bharat Nagar area and arrested the suspect, Ashraf Shaikh (19).While Shaikh tried to give the police vague answers when asked about the theft, he eventually confessed to the theft and gave the police the jewellery and cellphone. Basse Subhash (19) from Narpala mandal was apprehended by Putlur police. Kamsali Pavan Bahadur was arrested by Guntakal One Town police.
