Nashik: District collector Jalaj Sharma has advised the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) to carry out dredging in the Gangapur dam in order to help the civic body get access to more water.Sharma held a meeting with the officials from the NMC and Water Resources Department (WRD) at the district collectorate on Thursday evening during which the issue of water shortage was discussed. To this, the district collector suggested that dredging will enable the civic body get additional 0.6 TMC of water that usually remains unused and is well above the dead stock of the dam.The collector reviewed the situation regarding the availability of drinking water for the NMC. The collector has now advised the NMC to carry out the work of dredging so as to get access to the unused 0.6 TMC of water, Sonal Shahane, WRD executive engineer (Nashik irrigation division), said.Based on the factors, including availability of water in dams, lesser rainfall causing poor recharge of groundwater levels, release of water for Jayakwadi dam in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the district panel has reserved 5.3 TMC of water in Darna and Gangapur dams.
