Minister inspects damaged bridge, calls for bypass in Manmad

Nashik: Minister of state Bharati Pawar said she would be meeting road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari, seeking the construction of a bypass at Manmad for the movement of heavy vehicles.On Friday, the minister inspected the damaged road overbridge that is a part of the busy Manmad-Shirdi road. At present, pedestrians and motorists of the town are greatly inconvenienced as the overbridge was a critical connector between the two important areas with large civilian populations. After a meeting with railway and state PWD authorities, Pawar said the road passing through the town sees movement of heavy vehicles. Since a section of the road caved on Wednesday, this traffic has been diverted to other roads, which has led to traffic congestions.The Indore-Pune highway passes through Manmad-Shirdi and has high traffic movement. I will meet Gadkari, seeking his help in the construction of a bypass by the NHAI, said Pawar.The bypass would ease pressure on the road as heavy vehicles would then start taking the new route. The completion of the road and overbridge is crucial due to the expected increase in train frequency and the planned closure of the Comba level crossing.
