6 vehicles ransacked in Nashik by group of 20; four arrested

Nashik: A group of more than 20 people damaged six vehicles parked along the road in Bhadrakali on Saturday night sparking fear among local residents and shopkeepers. The police have already arrested four men in this case. DCP (Zone I) Kirankumar Chavan said the search for others involved in the violence is currently on.The incident took place at 8.30pm in the Chowk Mandai area of the old city, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Bhadrakali police station.The Chowk Mandai was busy as usual when a group of 15-20 people, armed with sticks, started smashing the vehicles parked along the road. Eyewitnesses said the vandals were targeting vehicles on the stretch between Ram Mukti Chowk and Birbal Akhada Chowk. Scared, many people shut the doors of their homes and downed the shutters of their shops.The Bhadrakali police rushed to the incident spot soon after getting the information. However, the vandals had left the scene by then.DCP Chavan said: According to our information, around six to seven vehicles, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers, were damaged. We sought information about the miscreants and arrested four of them. The search for 15 others is underway, said Chavan.There is a snooker club in the College Road area. Members of two groups from different parts of Bhadrakali clashed at the snooker club. NHAI used heavy-duty cranes to remove the damaged vehicles.Trial run starts at Chandni Chowk multilevel car parkingTrial run for a multilevel car parking at Chandni Chowk has begun. The facility can accommodate over 2,300 vehicles and is constructed on a public private partnership basis. The agency running the project is currently conducting the trial run and no charges are being taken from vehicles. They are waiting for the consent to operate from Delhi Pollution Control Committee before making the parking lot fully operational. The six-storey facility will help decongest several areas in Delhi.
