Deolali Cantonment Board plans anti-encroachment drive

Nashik: The Deolali Cantonment Board (DCB) has planned to act against encroachers in the Deolali Camp market area considering that a large number of illegal hawkers have mushroomed here over the past few months.The cantonment board has already issued a noticeto the encroachers, asking them to refrain from blocking the road that will invite strict action.An official from the DCB said the illegal kiosk owners and hawkers will be fined Rs5,000 each and their belongings will be confiscated by the board.The town area of Deolali Camp is a busy spot as a large number of shops and other establishments are located on both sides of the road. At the same time there are many hawkers who have come up on the streets, hampering the movement of vehicular traffic.Keeping this in mind, the DCB has issued the notice about initiating an anti-encroachment drive and appealing the people concerned to ensure that they clear the roads. Subhash Pawar, a resident of Deolali Camp, said, The streets in the town area are narrow and when we add the issue of encroachment, it leads to traffic congestion. The issue is mainly observed on the road opposite Levit market till the Cantonment Board hospital, and at times even further. Many citizens said that apart from the action against encroachers there should be a continuous action against motorists who indulge in haphazard parking. The low penalty collection for uncovered vehicles ferrying construction waste was due to a temporary ban on transportation of debris. Stop-work notices have been effective in ensuring compliance, with 763 notices issued and seven construction sites sealed. The guidelines require iron sheet enclosures, tarpaulin or jute covering, sprinkler systems, anti-smog guns, CCTV coverage, and fully covered vehicles for construction material and debris.
