Nashik: The city unit of BJP has requested the state leadership to let the party contest the Nashik Lok Sabha seat instead of Shiv Sena. Laxman Savji, a senior functionary from Nashik and state BJP spokesperson, told TOI that he has already spoken to Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the partys state president, on the issue. BJP has a strong presence in three of the six assembly segments. Moreover, it was in the ruling benches of the Nashik Municipal Corporation before the corporators term ended. Given these facts, we have requested the state leadership to let the party contest the seat, said Savji. Party workers are upbeat following BJPs electoral victory in three of the four recent state assembly elections. Naturally, they are also looking for the opportunity to contest the parliamentary elections, said BJPs city president Prashant Deshmukh.Another senior leader said Shiv Sena — which has Hemant Godse as its MP from Nashik — has lost its strength in the constituency since the vertical split in Sena. It may be noted that former corporator Dinkar Patil is one of the BJP politicians who has been preparing to contest for the past two years. He has been meeting people across the length and the breadth of the constituency. However, a section of party leadership is putting its weight behind Rahul Dhikle, the sitting MLA from Nashik East. Dhikle carries legacy of his father (late) Uttam Dhikle, a former mayor and member of 13th Lok Sabha from Nashik (Sena), and was MLA from Nashik East (MNS). When contacted, Hemant Godse said: Senior leaders of BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP (Ajit Pawar) will decide on the seats. Moreover, since 45+ MP seats are being targeted, it is unlikely that anybody will take unnecessary risks by replacing the incumbents. We also published the following articles recentlyPolitical turmoil in Kalyan as BJP MLA and Shiv Sena MP clash over Lok Sabha seat contentionIn the ongoing disputes between BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad and Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde in Kalyan, fresh controversies have emerged.
