4 booked for bursting firecrackers at night

Nashik: Bursting firecrackers in the middle of the night landed four men from the Nashik Road area in trouble. The police have booked them under IPC Section 188 (disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant).Ramdas Shelke, the senior inspector of the Nashik Road police station, said: Around 1am on Tuesday, our night patrolling team heard loud sounds of firecrackers at Kharjul Mala, in the Sinnar Phata area.The people involved were not only bursting firecrackers but also shouting on the street.Shelke said the four men are ambulance drivers.When the police personnel reached the spot, they found the men bursting firecrackers without permission and making noise in a public area to celebrate a birthday. Shelke said their actions were against the prohibitory orders issued by city police commissioner and in violation of the Maharashtra Police Act as well as the directives of the Supreme Court with respect to sound pollution.The four ambulance drivers were brought to the police station and an FIR was registered against them. The case is being investigated further.The senior inspector Shelke said he has told the patrolling teams to take suo moto action against people found taking law into their hands. The terminus is usually packed with city and state transport buses, causing long queues on the road. Commuters struggle to find space inside the terminus and often have to board the wrong buses. This problem is exacerbated by the rush of autorickshaws around the bus stand. The officials are aware of the issue and are working on finding a solution.
