Dhule police seize liquor worth ₹49 lakh, truck driver escapes

Nashik: The Dhule police on Monday night seized Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) worth over Rs49 lakh, being smuggled illegally into the state from Madhya Pradesh. The police said that action was taken on Monday at 11pm by inspector A S Agarkars team from the Shirpur city police station. The Shirpur police received information that a truck loaded with liquor had entered the state from Sendhwa in Madhya Pradesh, and was passing by using the Boradi-Wadi route.Afterwards, the police found the vehicle going towards Wadi.At the same time, the truck driver realised he was being followed by the police and halted the truck at the side before escaping. The interception occurred when two vehicles arriving from Patna and transporting smuggled foreign brand cigarettes were stopped near Rajanagarm on NH-16. The inspection revealed 900,000 sticks of Paris brand cigarettes and an equal quantity of Gold Vimal brand cigarettes in the vehicles. The officials impounded the cigarettes due to transportation without the payment of custom duties. Ongoing investigations are underway to delve deeper into the matter.
