Fake cops steal man’s gold chain

Nashik: Two conmen impersonating policemen cheated a man of his gold chain, worth Rs2 lakh, in Sinnar on Thursday evening. Sinnar police have registered an FIR against the conmen for offences punishable under sections 420 (cheating), 170 (impersonating as public servant) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Dattatray Mithe, resident of Lonarwadi in Sinnar, told police that he was riding his scooter from Sinnar town to a haldi ceremony at 11am on Thursday.Along the way, he was stopped by two people, who acted as policemen. They asked him to remove his gold chain, worth Rs2 lakh, and to keep it in the storage compartment of his scooter for safety reasons.On the pretext of putting the valuable in the storage compartment, the conmen stole the chain and fled the place.
