PATNA: In a joint operation, Bihar police’s Special Task Force STF ), with a Jharkhand police team , arrested top CPI (Maoist) leader Diwyendu Kumar Singh alias Subodh Singh from a rented accommodation at Ram Kahan Path in Bhojpur Colony under Kankarbagh police station area in Patna in the wee hours of Saturday.STF sources said he was clandestinely undergoing treatment for severe spine injury which took place during an encounter at Chaibasa in Jharkhand almost a fortnight back.“He fell down from heights during the encounter,” they said. Sources said Intelligence Bureau had tipped off about Maoist’s presence in Kankarbagh after which he was nabbed.They said Diwyendu was handed over to Patna police after arrest and would be taken on transit remand to Latehar in Jharkhand for attacking on police in January 2017.“Diwyendu, in his late 50s, was a close associate of deceased Maoist leader Arvind Kumar alias Arvind Kumar Singh till his last moments. Diwyendu also belonged from Sikaria in Jehanabad which was Arvind’s native place,” sources said.Arvind, the CPI (Maoist) core committee member (CCM), had died after suffering a heart attack at his hideout on Budha Pahar region of Jharkhand in mid-March. Arvind was carrying reward of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1 crore declared by Bihar and Jharkhand government respectively.“Diwyendu was Bihar-Jharkhand special area committee (BJ-SAC) member and a top Maoist leader,” said Latehar SP Prashant Anand while talking to TOI over phone.He said an encounter took place in the jungles of Saranda with Chaibasa police on May 11 in which he had received the injury.“Along with Diwyendu, other top Maoist leaders like Sudhakar Reddy and Anal Da were also present at the encounter site, but managed to escape,” he said.“After interrogation, it would become clear that from when he was in Patna,” Anand said.He said Diwyendu had come out of Gumla jail in mid-2016 after which he again joined party. “Police were gathering information of cases in which he was involved after coming out of jail,” Anand said.Sources said Diwyendu was arrested with Rs 18 lakh levy from Patrakar Nagar locality of Patna in January 2010.“Diwyendu’s wife, daughter and brother were already living at the rented accommodation in Bhojpur Colony from a long time. After injury, he took shelter with them,” sources said.They said her daughter had written Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) this year while two of his sons were studying in different engineering colleges outside Bihar.Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said Diwyendu was taken to PMCH for his injury and further action would be taken on doctor’s recommendation.
