BJP JDU may go for simultaneous LS state assembly polls

Chhattisgarh, MP and Rajasthan have BJP government. It opened the window to making it possible in the five states,” a Bihar BJP insider said on Friday. While Mizoram is under Congress rule, Bihar has come under the NDA headed by CM Nitish. PATNA: Indications are that PM Narendra Modi might go for simultaneous parliamentary and assembly elections in Bihar Chhattisgarh , Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram by even advancing the Lok Sabha polls by around four months. The state BJP circles have started thinking on this line since the 20-minute confidential talks between BJP chief Amit Shah and CM Nitish Kumar here on Thursday.“Even Nitish at the recent JD(U) national executive committee meet in Delhi affirmed that the party was not averse to simultaneous parliamentary and assembly elections in the country. Barring Bihar, the assembly elections have to be completed in the four states before January 20 next year, with that in Mizoram before December 18 this year. The emerging feeling is that PM Modi and Shah are driven by the idea that people might decide to vote for the same ruling party or combine both at the Centre and in the states concerned to have what is called the growth and development that could be ushered in by the “double-engine power”.It is being also argued that the only hitch earlier was the peculiarity of the Bihar situation, which had its last assembly elections in November 2015 and the present House has still over two years and four months left for its term to complete, but Nitish is now back in the NDA and almost on the same page with PM Modi and Shah.It is also felt that if parliamentary and assembly elections are held as per schedule in the country, in the worst situation, PM Modi might have to carry “the baggage of BJP loss in Chhattisgarh, MP and Rajasthan assembly elections.
