Experts to discuss models for Science City next week

PATNA: A team of science and technology experts from across the globe will visit Patna for three days on July 17 to discuss over 50 exhibits and models for the Science City proposed to come up at Rajendra Nagar, director (science and technology department) Atul Sinha on Friday.The proposed Science City will have more than 100 interactive and realistic exhibits on display. We are targeting to complete the Science City by 2020,” said Sinha. Only 4-5 models from these topics were discussed in the previous meeting,” he said.Sinha added that more advanced models would be selected for the learning space gallery in the proposed science city. “We have already conducted some internal research for models for the learning space gallery that can be touched and felt like a living being. In the upcoming meeting, experts will present various interactive exhibits along with the ones which were put on hold for improvement and modification in the previous meeting.

The first experts committee meet held in May had discussed and finalized exhibits under five categories, including basic science, body and mind, learning space, planet sustainability and space and astronomy.“We are considering a wide array of topics that can be demonstrated in the form of 3D and interactive exhibits and models at the proposed centre. In the upcoming meeting, experts will present various interactive exhibits along with the ones which were put on hold for improvement and modification in the previous meeting. Around 42 exhibits were presented in the previous meeting, out of which only 25 were finalized and 6-7 were kept on hold for modification. We are focusing to equip at least 100 exhibits for the complete utilization of the space in the centre,” Sinha said.“We will select more than 50 exhibits in the next meeting to pace up the work. The experts in the last meeting were asked to focus on different topics such as pollution-related models, electricity magnetism, conservation of energy, mechanics and optics. Only 4-5 models from these topics were discussed in the previous meeting,” he said.Sinha added that more advanced models would be selected for the learning space gallery in the proposed science city. “We have already conducted some internal research for models for the learning space gallery that can be touched and felt like a living being. The science enthusiasts will be allowed to break the models and build them again using their own innovative techniques in this gallery. Besides, more models are expected for environment and sustainability gallery,” he said.A UK-based multidisciplinary design and production firm, GSM Project, has made the architectural design for the Science City, which was approved by the department’s expert panel in June. “The construction work will start from the first week of August. Besides, the construction work of boundary wall has already been completed. We are targeting to complete the Science City by 2020,” said Sinha.
