PPU asks MU to close branch office in city

GAYA: Pataliputra University (PPU) has ordered the closure of its parent Magadh University’s branch office near the College of Commerce, Arts and Science in Patna.Through letter number MUB/033/18 dated July 13, branch office head A K Ghosh has informed MU vice-chancellor Prof Qamar Ahsan that Pataliputra University registrar on July 13 asked him to close down the office from July 14. “Pataliputra University students will be the real sufferers as records concerning exams, registration and migration of students of Patna and Nalanda district colleges of undivided MU (now part of Pataliputra University) are kept in the branch office. But the process needed time and the former registrar kept the file pending. The MU registrar has sought three months time to make alternative arrangement in Patna.Neither the Pataliputra University VC Gulab Chand Jaiswal nor Registrar Col K Kumar responded to the calls made by this reporter to their mobile phone numbers. “Efforts are being made to trace the file,” he said.Sources said the MU authorities have made an informal complaint to the Raj Bhavan regarding the attempt being made to force the closure of MU branch office.The MU registrar has also written to his Pataliputra University counterpart expressing inability to vacate the premises at once.

In case the office was not closed, the officials, employees and students would not be allowed to enter the premises, which is now owned by Pataliputra University.Prof Ahsan said it was a really unfortunate development and Pataliputra University appears to have adopted a confrontational attitude. “Pataliputra University students will be the real sufferers as records concerning exams, registration and migration of students of Patna and Nalanda district colleges of undivided MU (now part of Pataliputra University) are kept in the branch office. Record of court cases pending in the high court are also kept there and the court will be informed about this development,” he said.MU, according to the VC, was already looking for a rented accommodation in Patna to relocate its branch office. But the process needed time and the former registrar kept the file pending. “Efforts are being made to trace the file,” he said.Sources said the MU authorities have made an informal complaint to the Raj Bhavan regarding the attempt being made to force the closure of MU branch office.The MU registrar has also written to his Pataliputra University counterpart expressing inability to vacate the premises at once.
