Post-retirement dues including gratuity, leave encashment and provident fund among others were finally settled and orders passed for payment within 15 days in 67 cases. Around 23 cases were referred to the state government as the claims were found to be questionable.Such employees, according to university officials either did not complete the qualifying period of 20 years for being entitled to pension and other post-retirement benefits or they were appointed against non-sanctioned posts in an irregular manner.MU VC Prof Qamar Ahsan confirmed the reference made to the government. “Follow up action would be taken as and when the government response was available,” said the VC.Prior to the university’s bifurcation in March this year, around 100 teachers and an equal number of non-teachers reached the age of superannuation in the university every year. After the creation of Pataliputra University having 28 colleges with pensionable employees (unaided affiliated college employees are not entitled to pension and other post-retirement dues), the number is likely to go down by about 60%.The number of colleges in truncated MU having pensionable employees is 20. According to university officials, such employees of colleges now attached to Pataliputra University, who retired before March 31, 2018 will get pension from the MU fund.Officials claimed that more such adalats are likely to be held as about 600 pension claims are pending in the establishment section of the university. Registrar Col Pranav Kumar has been asked to expeditiously clear all pending files of pension payment.
