One more Aasra grih inmate dies at PMCH

PATNA: One more inmate of the Aasra Grih in city died at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Friday evening. This was the third death of an inmate of Aasra Grih this month.PMCH superintendent Dr Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said Anamika (27) was admitted to the hospital on Thursday evening following complain of breathlessness and weakness. He said she was given emergency treatment required under the supervision of Dr Kaushal Kishor (medicine department).“Thirteen inmates of Aasra home have been admitted to PMCH since August 11. One Ram Nagina Singh alias Banarsi (50), who lived in the neighbouring house, was arrested for enticing the girls to escape with him from the shelter. Two of its inmates have already been missing since Thursday.

Two of them are still undergoing treatment. Most of the patients are severely anaemic and weak,” Dr Rajiv said.The shelter home at Nepali Nagar under the Rajiv Nagar police station area in Patna came to the limelight on August 10 after three girls tried to flee by cutting the grill on the second floor. One Ram Nagina Singh alias Banarsi (50), who lived in the neighbouring house, was arrested for enticing the girls to escape with him from the shelter. A day after, two of its inmates — Poonam Bharti (17) and Bubli alias Notpa (40) — died due to poor medical and other facilities, but the NGO which was running the shelter did not inform the police. Later, police arrested NGO Anumaya Human Resource Foundation’s treasurer Manisha Dayal and secretary Chirantan Kumar and the state social welfare department took over its operation.The postmortem report of the deceased revealed that they had suffered from high fever and diarrhoea.
