PATNA: JD(U) on Sunday refused to support the growing demand for job reservation to the poor among the upper castes.“As per the existing provisions in the Constitution, the basis of reservation is social and education backwardness. Unless the Constitution is amended, reservation will be provided only to socially and educationally backwards,” JD(U) national general secretary (organization) RCP Singh told reporters after the party’s state executive body meeting here.Singh, however, hastened to add that his party leader and CM Nitish Kumar has launched a series of schemes for the development of upper caste members in the state.“Most of the schemes (bicycle, school uniform and the student credit card) of Nitish government are meant for the members of all castes, including those from the upper castes. All schemes under the Saat Nischay programme are also meant for all castes,” RCP said.Flanked by the party’s state president Bashishtha Narain Singh and several spokespersons, RCP also said JD(U) would give priority to youths in ticket distribution for the forthcoming general elections.
