Bihar: SHO martyred, dacoit killed in encounter

PATNA: Khagaria’s Pasraha police station SHO Ashish Kumar Singh was martyred while another constable Durgesh Prasad Yadav was shot at in an encounter with a heavily armed gang of dacoits, in Ganga diara (riverine belt) of Khagaria district at around 1 am on Saturday. However, the SHO was declared brought dead at the hospital. They were travelling in a tractor due to the area’s topography,” sources said.Police sources said the team, while chasing dacoits, had went far ahead and entered the jurisdiction of Parbatta police station where Singh got hit. The area falls at border of Khagaria and Naugachia town in Bhagalpur district Sources said that after receiving the information, police officials alerted the Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) in Bhagalpur to remain on alert for receiving the injured SHO and constable. “All hospitals in neighbouring districts were alerted,” he added.Police said Singh, a 2009 batch sub-inspector (SI), headed towards diara area post midnight soon after he was informed about a gang of criminals present there.“A team of two officers with small firearms, two district armed policemen with rifles, five home guards armed with bold action rifles and two chowkidars were with Singh.
