PATNA: The All India Students’ Federation (AISF) state brass on Monday demanded impartial inquiry into the incident involving former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar at AIIMS-Patna on Sunday.AIIMS-P medical superintendent Dr C M Singh lodged an FIR on Monday against Kanhaiya, AISF state president Sushil Kumar and around 100 unidentified people with Phulwarisharif police station, alleging that they manhandled intern Avinash Pandey , misbehaved with other doctors, beat up the security guards and obstructed in hospital functioning. Kanhaiya had visited the hospital on Sunday to see Sushil, who was operated upon in his right shoulder.“We demand an impartial inquiry into the incident. We hear that an FIR has also been lodged against Kanhaiya and others. The role of junior doctor Avinash Pandey should also be probed. It will help improve the health care system at AIIMS-Patna and make it more transparent, responsive and impartial,” former AISF national general secretary Vishwajeet Kumar said.Around 7.15pm on Sunday, Kanhaiya along with his six official security guards and AISF supporters was at the gate of the orthopaedic ward C3A of AIIMS-Patna to call on Sushil. Kanhaiya, along with security guards and state AISF president Ranjit Pandit — in all eight persons — split from the larger group, he said.“He also sent one security guard into the ward to inform Sushil and others concerned around him that he (Kanhaiya) had come to see him,” Vishwajeet said, adding Dr Pandey, at the gate, intervened saying “anti-national” Kanhaiya would not be allowed to meet the patient.An AIIMS security guard started videographing the scene which had turned hot after the use of ‘anti-national’ word for Kanhaiya who, in turn, said “he had several doctor friends of his age.” The AIIMS security guard was also told not to videograph as Kanhaiya had come merely to meet his colleague Sushil.“All this happened in less than two minutes. After that, Kanhaiya, his six security guards and others left AIIMS. No scuffle and no manhandling of anyone took place,” Vishwajeet claimed, adding that “those who used abusive language and ‘anti-national’ word for Kanhaiya are making all kinds of false, motivated and prejudiced allegations against him.”A few AISF functionaries and eyewitnesses, like Mahesh Kumar, Sushil Umaraj and Shashi Kant Kumar, corroborated Vishwajeet’s version. “The fact is that the AIIMS doctors had not been giving proper treatment to Sushil. Instead, they were pestering him with threats, asking him to leave the hospital or his name would be deleted from the patient register. They even said his ‘mulakatis’ (visitors) would be implicated in cases. This is unethical, inhuman,” Vishwajeet alleged.
