PATNA: A Pocso court on Wednesday awarded ten years rigorous imprisonment to a senior citizen for raping a minor girl with learning difficulties when she was alone at her home under the Shastri Nagar police station area in Patna on December 14, 2014.The special court of ADJ-I Ravindra Nath Tripathi also slapped a fine of Rs20,000 on Jaimangal Gope, who is now 64. The victim was 17 years’ old at the time of crime.The court sentenced Jaimangal under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of IPC and Section 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault with minimum seven years imprisonment to maximum life term) under the Pocso Act. Both the sentences would run simultaneously. The convict was slapped Rs10,000 as fine under each section.Special public prosecutor Suresh Chandra Prasad said the victim used to live with her parents on rent. “Between 4 and 5pm on December 14, Jaimangal forcibly entered into the victim’s flat while her parents had gone out. She was raped and the matter came to light after her parents returned,” Prasad said. He said the parents earned their livelihood by running a small general store in the area.Prasad said an FIR was lodged with the Shastri Nagar police station the same day and chargesheet was filed on January 31, 2016.
