Patna: Banks to be shut Tuesday, Wednesday

PATNA: Hundreds of city residents carried out financial transactions as banks reopened after a gap of three days on Monday. Banks were also shut on December 22 as it was the fourth Saturday of the month and December 23 was a Sunday. They will again remain shut on Tuesday and Wednesday.Businessmen also stood in long queues in banks to carry out their RTGS (Real time Gross Settlement) and NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer) transactions. I withdrew money today as there are chances of ATMs going dry again due to holidays and strikes.”Patna City resident Vivek Gupta told this reporter, “Strike or no strike. I have not been affected as I carry out financial transactions online.

Many Patnaites rushed to ATM kiosks in different areas to withdraw money.According to sources, the All-India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) had called a daylong strike on Friday against the proposed merger of public sector banks. Banks were also shut on December 22 as it was the fourth Saturday of the month and December 23 was a Sunday. While there will be a holiday on December 25 on account of Christmas , banks will remain closed on December 26 because of a strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).A State Bank of India official claimed there would be no cash crunch on Christmas as all the ATMs had been replenished.Alamganj resident Vishnu Kumar Singh (56) said, “I still depend on cash because I am not technologically sophisticated. I withdrew money today as there are chances of ATMs going dry again due to holidays and strikes.”Patna City resident Vivek Gupta told this reporter, “Strike or no strike. I have not been affected as I carry out financial transactions online. That saves time and energy.”
