GAYA: A local court on Saturday remanded the father of a 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly killed for honour, in police custody for three days. The mutilated body of the girl, a resident of Patwa Toli on the outskirts of Gaya town, was recovered on January 6.The girl had gone missing on December 28 and an FIR was lodged by her father on January 4. Later, the body with severed head was recovered from a bush on January 6.After preliminary investigation, the police had arrested the girl’s father and one of his close friends on January 10 on charges killing the girl for eloping with her alleged boyfriend. The two accused were later sent to jail.SSP Rajiv Mishra said the investigation was going on in the right direction. “Inputs provided by the community leaders, who believe it to be a case of rape and murder, have been meticulously verified,” Mishra said.Sources in the police department said the cops were pretty sure about it being a case of honour killing.“The victim’s sisters, who had earlier recorded their statements before a judicial magistrate, later retracted and claimed that they were coerced to make the statement. The police subsequently sought lie detector test to ascertain the truth. The family, however, refused to undergo the test. The refusal was self-revealing,” said a senior police officer associated with the investigation.Meanwhile, the postmortem report of the deceased girl has also been received. Though the contents of the report have not been made public, sources said no evidence of sexual assault was found on the body. The killing took place 2-3 days before the recovery of the body and some parts of the body were eaten by animals, most probably dogs, the report purportedly stated.
