Minister opens 3rd unit of 250MW at Nabinagar

AURANGABAD: Union minister of state (independent charge) for power RK Singh dedicated the third 250MW unit of Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Corporation Ltd (BRBCL) at Nabinagar in Aurangabad district on Wednesday.BRBCL is a joint-venture of NTPC and railways. During his maiden visit to BRBCL, Singh inspected the power plant and township. Railways and Bihar respectively will get 90% and 10% of the power generated from each unit of BRBCL.With this, the commercial capacity of BRBCL has been increased to 750MW.

AURANGABAD: Union minister of state (independent charge) for power RK Singh dedicated the third 250MW unit of Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Corporation Ltd (BRBCL) at Nabinagar in Aurangabad district on Wednesday.BRBCL is a joint-venture of NTPC and railways. NTPC has 74% stake while the railways has the remaining 26%. The BRBCL has four units of 250MW each at its plant located at Barun in Nabinagar. Railways and Bihar respectively will get 90% and 10% of the power generated from each unit of BRBCL.With this, the commercial capacity of BRBCL has been increased to 750MW. The fourth unit is yet to be commissioned. During his maiden visit to BRBCL, Singh inspected the power plant and township. He also inaugurated the newly constructed hospital buildings and secondary school of BRBCL township. Singh also distributed solar lanterns among the villagers and tricycles, wheelchairs and sticks among the people with disabilities. The minister also planted saplings on the premises.The minister also visited Nabinagar Power Generating Company where he inaugurated the 1st unit of 660MW. He also inaugurated newly constructed building of Bhashkar Guesthouse and Sone Samridhi Shopping Complex.Addressing a press conference after the function, Singh highlighted the initiatives taken to make power available to each and every household. He said the country has achieved the installed capacity of 3,49,000MW from 1,77,00MW earlier. He complimented the NTPC for generating power from BRBCL despite challenges.He also appreciated the NTPC efforts to keep the electricity prices unchanged during the last four and a half years in spite of 45% increase in input cost like that of coal and freight. "We have achieved one-nation-one-grid goal and we are now able to transmit bulk power from one part of the country to another. Very soon, we will achieve the ambitious target of electrifying all houses of the country after making power available to all the villages of the country. This is a world record keeping in view the size of the work," Singh said.Speaking about Bihar, he said: "NTPC has invested about Rs60,000 crore in Bihar with a production capacity of 10,000MW. This is the 80% of the power needs of the state."Other dignitaries present on the occasion included Gurdeep Singh, chairman and managing director of NTPC Ltd, S K Roy, NTPC director (projects), S Narendra, regional executive director (ER-1) and C Sivakumar, chief executive officer, BRBCL.
