Former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey to join Nitish Kumar’s JDU today

Patna: Former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey will be joining Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) at a ceremony at 1 pm on Saturday. This comes days after Gupteshwar Pandey took voluntary retirement from services and triggered speculation of contesting the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. IPS officer Gupteshwar Pandey, who has been at the centre of the controversy surrounding investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, sparked rumours of joining politics by announcing his retirement.

This comes days after Gupteshwar Pandey took voluntary retirement from services and triggered speculation of contesting the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. IPS officer Gupteshwar Pandey, who has been at the centre of the controversy surrounding investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, sparked rumours of joining politics by announcing his retirement.

Gupteshwar Pandey has been a vocal supporter of Nitish Kumar and was criticised over his sexist remarks on actor Rhea Chakraborty. On Tuesday night, Gupteshwar Pandey hogged media limelight by announcing his retirement and triggered rumours. He further fuelled the speculation by saying "I am a free man now, can do anything".

Dates for Bihar assembly elections were announced on Friday and Election Commission has said the polls will be held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7. Bihar elections will be one of the biggest elections in the world that will be held during the Covid-19 pandemic. Counting of votes will be held on November 10, the Election Commission announced on Friday.
