Bihar CM Nitish Kumar ties rakhi to trees

PATNA: Aiming to spread the message of environment conservation on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, which is also observed as Bihar Tree Protection Day by the state government, chief minister Nitish Kumar and his cabinet colleague Tej Pratap Yadav, who holds the environment, forest and climate change portfolio, tied rakhi to trees in separate events in the city on Thursday.The chief minister tied a rakhi to a tree in the citys Rajdhani Vatika and also planted a sapling to mark the occasion. He had started the initiative to mark the occasion of Rakshabandhan as Bihar Tree Protection Day on August 13, 2012, with an aim to create awareness about the environment among the people. The CM was accompanied by minister of finance, commercial tax and parliamentary affairs Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, building construction minister Ashok Chaudhry and water resources and information and public relations minister Sanjay Kumar Jha.Meanwhile, environment, forest and climate change minister Tej Pratap tied rakhis on 50 Kusum trees at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, commonly known as Patna zoo. Tej Pratap, accompanied by Bandana Preyashi, secretary of his department, planted new trees as well.A group of 70 underprivileged children also took part in the programme, organised as part of the 50th foundation year celebration of the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park.
