27% rain deficit: Bihar can expect showers till Sept 6

PATNA: The state capital has been battling sweltering heat even as the city witnessed sporadic rainfall over the last two days. Other parts of the state has also been witnessing dry weather with the exception of Sheikhpura and Jamui, which saw 12.5mm and 4.0mm rainfall respectively.Patna Meteorological Centre has predicted isolated showers in the state till September 6. Despite this, temperature in several cities across the state remained high on Sunday. These included Buxar with a maximum temperature 38.6 degrees Celsius, Vaishali (38.6 degrees C), Aurangabad (37.9 degrees C), Harnaut (37.7 degrees C), Sheikhpura (37.6 degrees C) and Nawada (37.4 degrees C). Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2 degrees C.According to a report by the Patna Meteorological Centre, the monsoon trough continues to run along the foothills of the Himalayas. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over north-east Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood has persisted, which is likely to create a low-pressure area. As a result of these influences, rainfall is likely in the upcoming week.The state has received just 577.5mm of rainfall from June 1 to September 3 against the corresponding normal of 795.9mm. This has led to a 27% deficiency in rainfall.
