Five family members thrashed, house set on fire for not withdrawing case in Bihar`s East Champaran district

MOTIHARI: Five members of a family were thrashed and their house was set on fire by the goons of an influential person Saturday night for allegedly refusing to withdraw his nephews name from a case lodged with Turkauliya police station in East Champaran district. Among the five thrashed were two women of the family.The incident took place at Bijulpur-Tikuliya village under Turkauliya police station area in the district.Radhey Shyam Sahani, a farm labourer, lodged an FIR in this connection with Turkauliya police station on Sunday. He alleged that Ramesh Sahani, the husband of Bijulpur panchayat mukhiya, her son and henchmen entered his house and thrashed all the family members and ransacked their house before setting it on fire on Saturday night."Last week, I had lodged a complaint with the police against Neta Sahani, the nephew of Ramesh Sahani, in a case related to road accident. Ramesh had been pressurizing me not to mention the name of his nephew in the case, but I did not buckle under his pressure. He had threatened me of dire consequences. On Saturday night, Ramesh and his son with their goons attacked us and ravaged my house," Radhey alleged. Turkauliya SHO Anil Kumar said the matter was being investigated and the accused would be arrested soon.
