Bihar education dept withdraws its August 29 holiday notification

PATNA: The Bihar education department on Monday withdrew its notification on curtailment of holidays, which had triggered widespread protests by teachers and threats of a state-wide agitation.Opposition BJP, too, had criticised the move and accused the Grand Alliance government of being anti-Hindu.A notification issued by the director of secondary education said the August 29 circular reducing the number of holidays stood cancelled with immediate effect.Teachers had been up in arms as the August 29 circular cancelled the holidays for important festivals like Rakshabandhan and Janmashtami, and reduced the number of vacations for Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath.
