Bihar CM Nitish Kumar reviews situation of dengue infection, asks officials to remain alert

PATNA: Alarmed over the recent surge in dengue cases in certain parts of the state, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday held a high-level meeting with senior bureaucrats to review the steps taken for prevention of the disease. He asked the health department officials to remain alert and make arrangements of all necessary things including medicines and exclusive beds in the hospitals.Chairing the meeting at Sankalp hall of his official residence, Nitish also asked all district magistrates to keep a close vigil about dengue infection in their respective jurisdiction and make all necessary arrangements for immediate treatment if any case of dengue is detected in their district.The CM further asked the health officials to ensure availability of sufficient number of beds in hospitals and make sure that patients do not face any sort of inconvenience in treatment. Also ensure availability of sufficient quantity of platelets in the blood banks and regular fogging of anti-dengue disinfectant in the affected areas, Nitish told the officials. He also asked the officials to use different forms of propaganda to make people aware about the dengue infection. Make people alert about the dengue infection through newspapers, hoardings and other mediums of propaganda, Nitish told the officials attending the meeting.Deputy CM-cum-health minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, additional chief secretary (health) Pratyaya Amrit, additional chief secretary (urban development and housing) Arunish Chawla and all senior officials of the chief ministers office were present at the review meeting. As per the health officials, dengue infection is spreading fast in certain parts of the state. Total number of dengue patients in the state capital in the current season has reached 96. In Bhagalpur, altogether 55 new cases of dengue infection were detected on Friday and Saturday.In Patna district, at least eight new patients were identified on Saturday. Even Patna DM Chandra Shekhar Singh is suffering from dengue infection. He has been admitted at a private hospital in Raja Bazar area of the state capital. The CM visited the private hospital in the afternoon and inquired about the health of the Patna DM. The CM spoke to the doctors and inquired about the treatment of the DM.
