Shopkeeper shot dead in Bihar`s Muzaffarpur village

PATNA: Unidentified criminals shot dead a grocery shopkeeper while he was sleeping at his shop under Rampur Hari police station area in Muzaffarpur district on Monday. The deceased was identified as Jiya Lal Bhagat (55), a resident of Majhaulia village. The police had to face the wrath of the locals while trying to send the body for postmortem. Rampur Hari SHO Md Kalamuddin said the miscreants entered the shop by cutting open the back gate. Jiya used to sleep at the shop some distance away from his home. When some customers reached the shop in the morning, they found him lying in a pool of blood. "Blood was oozing from his nose and ears. No empty bullet shell was recovered from the spot. The police are investigating the case from all aspects," he added.Jiyas son Jitendra said his father had been running a grocery store there for many years. He was the sole bread earner of the family. He had collected about Rs1.5 lakh to buy grocery stock. Some money was taken as a loan. He might have been killed for the money as no cash was found in the shop, Jitendra alleged.
