SSB jawan shoots self in West Champaran

PATNA/BAGAHA: A Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan shot himself dead with his service rifle at Bhikhna Thori Border Outpost (BOP) on Indo-Nepal border in West Champaran on Wednesday morning. According to the SSB sources, the jawan, identified as Jagdish Batni (30), had returned from home around 15 days ago. He was a little depressed as his mother was critically ill and was admitted in a hospital. He belonged to Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh and was posted at the 44th battalion of SSB.Sources said the deceased was the only son of their parents. He was married and had two married sisters.According to the information reaching the SSB headquarters, he died by suicide around 5.15am. The other jawans rushed to the spot on hearing gunshot. They found Jagdish lying on the floor of the barrack. SDPO Kundan Kumar, Shikarpur inspector Ramashray Yadav and Sahodara police station incharge Dheeraj Kumar, along with the police force reached the spot and sent the body to Government Medical College, Bettiah, for postmortem.The Sahodra SHO said the family of the deceased will arrive on Thursday. "The LMG (light machine gun) used in the firing has been seized. He had a bullet wound under his chin. The reason behind suicide is not known. No suicide letter was recovered from his barrack," he said.
