2 women, 3 girls drown in Darbhanga boat capsize

PATNA: Five persons drowned as the boat they were riding capsized in Kamla river at Kusheshwar Asthan in Darbhanga district on Wednesday. Among the deceased were two women and three girls. The bodies were fished out with the help of villagers and the police.The incident took place at Shahpur Chaur between Jhajhra and Gadhehpura under Tilkeshwar police station area. The remaining others were rescued.Those who died have been identified as Jagtarni Devi (55), Sonali Kumari (13), Kalpana Kumari (12), Pulpari Devi (60) and Sonia Kumari (11), Biraul SDPO Manish Kumar Chaudhary said. CM Nitish Kumar expressed grief and announced a compensation of Rs4 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.
