Spike in dengue cases as 215 more test +ve in Bihar

PATNA: At 215, the state recorded the highest one-day dengue tally on Tuesday. With this, the states dengue tally so far this year has crossed the 1,000-mark. Altogether 1,132 dengue cases have been recorded in the state so far. The number of dengue patients admitted in government hospitals in the state also rose to 225 on Tuesday.The state government will hold a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review the dengue situation.As per the data shared by the health department, a maximum of 32 cases were recorded in Patna, followed by Bhagalpur (29), Jamui (27), Begusarai (14) and Vaishali (10). Number of patients admitted in different hospitals also increased on Tuesday. A maximum of 141 patients were undergoing treatment at Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH), Bhagalpur. On Monday, the hospital had 115 dengue patients.Experts said dengue cases would continue to witness an upward trend till October. "In festive season, the cases further go up for several reasons. People from outside the state come with dengue. In Chhath, many people store water in the tanks, and this aggravates the situation," an official said.In 2022, altogether 1,896 dengue cases were registered in September, 7,605 in October and 3,855 in November.Health department additional chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit and the departments secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh on Tuesday visited Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, where nine dengue patients were undergoing treatment. The officials visited the dengue ward and asked the hospital authorities to improve facilities at the medicine counter.Amrit said the situation was under control. "We have sufficient stock of medicines as well as beds. People should take necessary precautions," he added.
