Rainfall likely in state for 3 days

PATNA: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted enhanced rainfall activity in the state for the next three days as a result of a low pressure area moving towards central India. The north-eastern parts of the state will receive heavy rainfall while the capital is likely to receive moderate rainfall. A consequent drop in temperatures is expected as well.The Patna Meteorological Centres director Ashish Kumar told this newspaper on Wednesday that the weather system in Bihar is being affected by the formation of a low pressure area over northern Bay of Bengal which is now moving towards central India. "Districts like Kishanganj, Araria and Purnea will receive heavy rainfall for the next three days," he said adding that although rainfall activity in Patna is likely to increase as well, heavy rains are not expected in the city.Residents will also see some respite from the heat as temperatures are likely to reduce from Thursday. "Hot and humid conditions will reduce as a result of persistent cloudy weather," Kumar said.According to a bulletin produced by the Patna Meteorological Centre, the next 24 hours will see light to moderate rainfall at several places in the north-eastern and south-eastern parts of the state and at some places in the south-western and south-central parts. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the districts of Kishanganj, Purnea and Katihar.IMD has also issued yellow alerts for thunderstorm and lightning all across the state and heavy rainfall alert in the districts of Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnea, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui and Madhepura.The monsoon trough now passes through Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Ratlam, Sidhi, Ranchi and then towards the centre of the low pressure area.As of September 20, the state has received a total of 640.9mm of rainfall against the corresponding normal of 925.5mm. As a result, the state has a rainfall deficiency of 31% this monsoon.
