State records 333 dengue cases, highest in a single day

PATNA: The state registered the highest single-day 333 dengue cases on Wednesday, as the tally crossed the 3,000-mark (3,099) in Bihar this year so far. As per the bulletin issued by the State Health Society, Patna had the maximum 91 dengye cases on Wednesday, followed by Bhagalpur (27) and Saran (20). The total number of dengue patients admitted in the 12 government hospitals stood at 274, including the highest 115 at JLN Medical College and Hospital at Bhagalpur, followed by 31 at VIMS, Pawapuri and 25 at ANMMCH, Gaya. AIIMS-Patna had 20 patients admitted while IGIMS and PMCH reported 16 dengue patients each. Ten patients were undergoing treatment at NMCH.Taking the rising number of dengue cases with all seriousness, the government medical colleges have reserved beds, including in the ICUs, and started fogging and anti-larval spraying in hospitals and teaching departments. The IGIMS administration marked 25 beds for dengue patients in addition to three in isolation ICU, its superintendent Dr Manish Mandal said. The institute has been engaged in random verification of strains of dengue virus spreading in the state for over a week. He said one sample from every district was being examined by the microbiology department for ascertaining the strain type.
