Bihar: Vigilance sleuths` raids yield engineer`s assets worth Rs 7 crore

PATNA: Sleuths of the Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) on Thursday raided multiple locations of Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, an executive engineer (electrical) posted with South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited, and unearthed disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 7 crore amassed by him. Gupta is posted in Banka.The raids conducted at the office as well as the official residence of the engineer in Banka, his residential building in Bhagalpur, his native village in Purnia and his flat in Patnas Danapur locality, yielded Rs 40 lakh in cash, an SVU official said.According to the SVU, the engineer owns nine land plots worth Rs 1 crore, a flat in Patna worth Rs 35 lakh, a house and godown in Bhagalpur worth Rs 35 lakh and Rs 30 lakh, respectively, and a Creta car worth Rs 15 lakh. The raiding teams also seized ornaments, documents of LIC policies and land deeds.The raids were carried out after the SVU registered a case against the engineer under various sections of the IPC Act on Tuesday. The vigilance sleuths also stumbled upon two bank lockers in the name of the engineer and his wife, 10 bank accounts and fixed deposits investments of more than Rs 30 lakh in banks."The engineer has received around Rs 66 lakh as salary in his eight years of service, but the value of total movable and immovable assets seized from his possession amounts to around Rs 7 crore," said an official press statement issued by the SVU.
