PDS shops deny ration or stop timely delivery: Beneficiaries

Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Food Commission under the leadership of its chairman Himanshu Shekhar Chaudhary on Thursday conducted a public hearing in Ranchi where more than 20 beneficiaries came forward to voice their grievances. The meeting sought to address issues related to the distribution of PDS. The hearing is part of the ongoing drive by the commission across the state.A beneficiary from Lapung panchayat, Krishna Kurmali complained against a local PDS dealer for failing to distribute mandated ration. Chaudhary immediately ordered the district supply officer (DSO), Albert Bilung, to take immediate action against the dealer on the spot. Ranchi resident Sanjay Kumar Sahu registered a complaint against a dealer who denied him ration since April 2022 despite a valid ration card. I have been trying for over a year to obtain my ration, and despite contacting the DSO and reaching out to the food commission through written communication, no action has been taken to date," Sahu said.Chaudhary directed the DSO to resolve the matter within seven days and ensure the aggrieved beneficiary not only receives entitled ration but also get compensation. Chaudhary said, It is the duty of officials to ensure that all receive their ration. Dealers who fail to uphold this responsibility should face consequences, and officials who neglect their duty will also face action."The commission also used the opportunity to promote one card one nation scheme aimed at streamlining the distribution of essential food supplies. The commission provided comprehensive guidelines to the DSO and other relevant officers to ensure the effective implementation of this programme. To enhance transparency and awareness among beneficiaries, the commission issued directives to display information regarding food supply on notice boards outside PDS shops.The commission also recommended conducting awareness campaigns through hoardings at Anganwadi centres focussing on various aspects, including food items, malnutrition issues, and the overall well-being of women and children.We also published the following articles recentlyRation dealers commission hike comes into effectThe state government of Hyderabad has increased the commission for ration dealers from Rs 900 to Rs 1,400 per tonne. The wheat was not fit for consumption and was meant to be auctioned as fodder. After receiving a complaint, it was recalled and replaced with standard-grade wheat. An investigation is underway, and a show-cause notice has been issued to the responsible officials.Govt to offer Rs 100 groceries in ration this Diwali tooThe state government of Mumbai will provide a package of Diwali groceries to ration card holders for Rs 100, including items such as maida and poha. This scheme will cost the government Rs 530 crore and will be offered between October 25 and November 30 to the 1.3 crore ration card holders in the state.
