Firm officials laying rly tracks shot at in Chatra, one hurt

Chatra: Assailants opened fire on the officials of the Millennium construction company that is laying the Shivpur-Kathautiya railway tracks at Dhangadda Raksi village under the Tandwa police station limits on Monday, injuring the surveyor.Sources said two motorcycle-borne criminals waylaid the five or six company officials, who were on way to the construction site, at an under-construction bridge and opened fire on them.Surveyor Amit Kumar Jha sustained bullet injuries in the right hand. He was administered first aid at the Nawadih health centre in Tandwa, from where he was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims), Ranchi.The attack was carried out by a gang to extort money from the construction firm, sources added. The officer in-charge of the Tandwa police station, Vijay Kumar Singh, said investigation was under way. The villagers claim that the project falls in a crocodile habitat and violates environmental laws. The GCZMA had previously imposed conditions on the GSIDC based on directives from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), but the villagers now claim that the construction work has started without complying with these conditions.
