  • | Friday | 9th February, 2024

Distinguished naturalist and accomplished bird photographer, A.K. Sahay, hailing from Dhanbad, is currently making waves in Jamshedpur with his impactful nature education campaign in schools and colleges. This commendable initiative is conducted under the auspices of the Indian Bird Photography Society (IBPS).   During his present visit, Sahay has already made enlightening visits to two prominent institutions – NML Kerala Public School and Netaji Subhash University. His upcoming engagements include Shrinath University and Cooperative College.   The crux of this educational campaign involves the display of high-quality bird images captured by Sahay during his extensive travels across the country. To engage the students further, a quiz based on bird-related questions has been incorporated into the program. The responsibility of being the quiz master has been entrusted to a local talent, Kishor Kumar.   Winners of the quiz are not only rewarded with prizes but also receive a coveted certificate of merit signed by  Sahay and the respective institutions principal, adding a significant stamp of recognition to their achievements.   In his impactful speeches,  Sahay underscores the pivotal role of birds in maintaining ecological balance and contributing to the augmentation of vegetation cover. Birds play a crucial part in dispersing seeds and saplings of trees, as well as in controlling the population of insects.   The campaign has garnered earnest support from Dr. Raju Kumar, the Director of Environmental Etiquette, and his team member Abhishek Bharti, a skilled youngster proficient in PowerPoint presentations and event moderation.    Sahay shared that he is carrying out this initiative in line with the instructions of the late Abdul Kalam, who had encouraged him to conduct nature education campaigns in schools and colleges across the country. This campaign has already covered more than 25 institutions in Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu, including prestigious ones like IIT Madras and St. Xaviers College, Ranchi.   The response from students has been encouraging, with active participation and enthusiastic answers to the quiz, showcasing the positive impact of  Sahays nature education campaign.
